Took a bunch of students to Toastmasters this evening. Toastmasters is an international professional organization dedicated to developing public speaking skills. In China, it is very popular among working professionals, because it is all done in English, and they see it as an excellent way to develop their English language profficiency. I want English majors at least to be familiar with what Toastmasters has to offer, although I don't think too many of them will join right now at this point in their lives. It's just too expensive. But once they get out of school and into their professional careers where they have a salary every month, the membership fee will not be burdensome at all. Well worth the price and certainly quite a bit cheaper than most other language learning options.
