Reflections on a Wandering Life.....

Autumn in Beijing

A couple weeks ago I had dared to hope that summer was pretty much over, but last week it came back with a vengeance. Really awful. Hot, sticky and polluted. But Saturday night it rained cats and dogs. Fortunately, the real downpour didn't start until after I got home, which is nice, because I figured it would be rained out by morning. But I was wrong. Sunday morning came and it was still raining cats and dogs. Well, at least puppies and kittens. Rained all morning but more or less dried out by the time church was over. Just exactly what we needed to wash the muck out of the air. Sunday afternoon it started to clear up, and yesterday was awesome. Today too. It can't really be called "fall" yet, because it still gets pretty warm during the day. But a morning walk in the park is really nice. Cool and sunny. This is the time of the year when it is really nice to be in Beijing. September is iffy. Sometimes it's hot like August; sometimes it's cool like October. But if the way it's starting out is any indication, it's going to be a very pleasant fall.
